News: Voice of GTA IV's Niko Bellic wants more respect - The voice actor who portrayed Niko Bellic is unhappy with the wage disparity between traditional and electronic media [GamesIndustry.biz news]
Actually, what it is he's talking about here, is royalties. How many hours of performance did his 100k payment for his 15 month gig actually get Rockstar? Did he work full-time during that 15 months? Somehow I doubt that.
On the other hand, the average salary for a game designer is below 100k. How many hours over the several YEARS that this game was being made did they give for what amounts to the same pay? More than the 40 hours each week we consider full time, I guarantee you that. How much of GTA's success is really due to the performance and how much to the game's creators? Surely the actor's part, while not insignificant, pales in comparison to the designers, artists, engineers and sound designers that make the game the interactive work that it is, right?
I don't even disagree with the guy's point and I'm still insulted. You seriously want royalties? You're going to stand on the backs of all of these people and demand your share of the profits without even thinking to recognize that you'd not even have the CHANCE to talk about it without their work, first? Are you out of your fucking mind?
You really think actors and their performances make the game? Have you forgotten the 30 year history that got us to GTAIV?!
You want royalties? Get in fucking line, man. Those of us who spent the last few decades making these games things popular wouldn't mind our share, first.
